That proverbial place down the rabbit hole – a phrase courtesy of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – which first came to mean a strange and absurd alternate universe.
With the emergence of the internet, the meaning of the phrase shifted to getting sucked into a seemingly endless chain of information on a particular topic, or as writer Kathryn Shulz calls it, “extreme distraction.”
And it spawned a new phenomenon, Google Amnesia.
Which brings us to today’s crypto universe. It’s not strange or absurd by any means. Nor a distraction. Fantastical? Maybe.
What it is is innovation moving so quickly, the prospect of radical change materializing so dramatically, and possibilities so endless that once you’re “bought in,” it’s hard to tune out.
Call it Rabbit Hole 3.0.
